How did NCIS get to be so cool?
The “NCIS” episode that deals with investigations in the military is popular with individuals between 18 and 49, and is increasing its audience by 2 million, due to the fact that they can relate to everyday life situations with a scenario such as this. Living in a world with terrorism at its door and the military being the sole protector, makes an episode involving a branch of the military, such as the U.S. Navy or Marine Corps., very interesting for many curious young viewers. In fact, it made such an impact on its audience that a spinoff entitled,”NCIS: Los Angeles” was created.

Brennan explains that “NCIS” spends much time and energy developing its characters in relation to the story line and/ or plot, while other shows concentrate more on scientific facets, which are not really interesting to their viewers. “NCIS” viewers are more concerned with the characters and their reactions to incidents than how, when, or why an issue is solved. It is definitely a “people” show, thus relating to investigators’, and victims’ problems and/ or reactions to these problems. This is what defines “NCIS” and creates its place in the lead of other shows. “The Big Bang Theory” can be compared to “NCIS”, due to the strong actions and personalities of its actors/actresses as they portray their characters in a most passionate manner. On the other hand, “Law and Order” concentrates more on the plot, but does have some strong personalities in relation to its characters. “NCIS” also uses humor in good taste, to lighten the mood and create a more relaxed setting. All in all, “NCIS” cares about people problems and uses its script to define relationships in regard to its plots.
